Vertical Sketchmaster

The Vertical Sketchmaster is a mapmaking instrument that enables you to project an image onto a flat surface. It is typically used to superimpose an image, such as an aerial photograph, onto a map, such as a topographic map.

A half-silvered, semi-transparent mirror, mounted at the front of the instrument, reflects light and also permits light to pass through it, enabling you to see the superimposed images of the photograph and the map. The photo image is reflected into an upright position by the large opague mirror. A lens, inserted in a clip below the mirror, can be used to adjust the size of the image and bring it into focus. Three adjustable legs can be used to correct for tilt and differences in scale. The instrument operates in daylight or by artificial lighting. The reflection-transmission ratio for the semi-transparent mirror is fixed. Adjustment of the light ratio between the photograph and map is made by varying the amount of light.

Lenses are not included. No lens is required when the scales of the photograph and map are similar. For map/photograph scales that are different, the proper lens is selected and inserted in its clip below the mirror. Use the table below to help select the proper lens for your requirements.

Quadrangle Scale Set

The finest pocket-size set of map scales for geologist, forester, and surveyor. Set includes the 12 most commonly used map scales on topographic quadrangle maps and aerial photographs. Consists of 6 scales printed both sides on white laminated vinyl and eyeletted in a protective vinyl jacket. Scales are 7 1/2" long by 3/4" wide and fan open for individual use. Alvin Satin-Glow Lightbox

Portable light system designed for tracing and cutting. Features plastic diffuser in hand-crafted wood frame, built-in handle, non-skid rubber feet, press-to-start switch and color-corrected fluorescent bulbs. All units are only 3 inches thick and have collapsible tilt legs. To avoid breakage during shipment, all units ship without glass, which must be purchased locally by the customer. Glass size and thickness are specified in the operating manual. Units can be used without glass for tracing.
