INTRODUCING THE NEW MS3 MAGNETIC SUSCEPTIBILITY METER

The MS3 Magnetic Susceptibility Meter is a new instrument offering a wide measurement range, with excellent resolution. It is used with the MS2 range of sensors and probes, reading up to 26 SI (volume) with effective resolution of 2 x 10-6 SI.

The MS3 Meter, with MS2 probes, is the ideal instrument for soil, rock, powder and liquid measurements in environmental science, geophysics  and industrial applications. The increase in the upper range, compared to its predecessor the MS2, permit its use in iron and copper ore processing, and other situations where samples with very high magnetic susceptibility are encountered.

The MS3 Meter consists of a small electronics module and new Windows-based software "BartSoft". All user-control and display functions are provided within BartSoft Windows, which can be run on a desktop/laptop PC for laboratory use, or BartSoftCE, for use with a handheld Windows Mobile device for field use.

The MS3 Meter is now recommended for all users, in preference to the MS2 Meter, due to its expanded range and much greater control of measurement parameters through the BartSoft software.  It is compatible with all MS2 sensors, including the susceptibility vs. temperature (X/T) system.

The recommended field data logger is the Trimble Nomad, which is field rugged, runs Windows Mobile operating system and includes a built-in GPS.  ASC Scientific is an authorized Trimble dealer for the Nomad and all Trimble Mapping/GIS products

MS3 Data Sheet

The Bartington MS2 System offers the only full range of equipment for high precision field and laboratory measurements. With this unique range of sensors, the Bartington system is now well established as the world standard for field or laboratory use.

The MS2 system consists of the original MS2 Meter (or new MS3 Meter) and one or more individually calibrated sensors for samples or field measurements. The MS2 meter will take measurements to 1 x 10-6 cgs sensitivity, which are extremely rapid (approx. 1 sec. duration), with readings displayed digitally on the meter in CGS or SI units. A built-in RS232 interface allows control and/or data collection via external computer or optional handheld data logger. Sensitivity is expandable by a factor of 10 (to 1 x 10 -7) using a built-in range multiplier. The system can be powered either from 110/240 VAC, 12 volt external power, or the built-in rechargeable lead/acid batteries.

The MS2 Meter now includes Multisus 2 (Windows) Software, at no additional cost, for analysis of whole cores and single samples and logging of sample data.
